Legal effect
Applicants and medical schools may register for the 2027 Main Residency Match. Registration is separate from the ERAS application.
What this establishes
- Registration opened at 12:00 p.m. ET on 15 September 2026.
- Standard registration deadline: 29 January 2027, 11:59 p.m. ET. Ranking opens 1 February 2027. Rank order list certification deadline: 3 March 2027. Match Week: 15–19 March 2027; Match Day: 19 March 2027.
- For international medical graduates, ECFMG must report Match eligibility to NRMP by the rank-order-list certification deadline; the ECFMG 2027 Pathways application deadline is 31 January 2027.
- NRMP continues its voluntary program rank-order-list lock pilot in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics and Vascular Surgery.
What this does not establish
- Any program’s interview or ranking decisions.
- Visa availability for any applicant.
Why it matters
For IMGs the Match is the last of several gates, and the ECFMG deadline falls before ranking opens.
