Global outbreak state: where each country actually stands

The DR Congo outbreak is expanding, Uganda’s has been declared over, and the international emergency continues. Those are three separate facts, and no single flag can carry them.

One pathogen, two national states, one international emergency

A generic two-country outbreak story goes wrong the moment one country closes and the other does not. This page holds state per country, and holds the international determination separately from both.

Active — expanding

Democratic Republic of the Congo

60 of 151 health zones across six provinces. 5,794 confirmed cases and 2,786 deaths through . A frontline-worker Ervebo campaign began in Kisangani on 27 August.

Outbreak declared over

PHEIC continues · not a pandemic emergency

What this does not establish. A PHEIC is not a pandemic. Ervebo’s protection against Bundibugyo virus has not been established, and its use in a frontline campaign is not evidence that it works against this species. A WHO determination is not a travel recommendation, and it does not authorise any national border measure.

A source-integrity note worth keeping

When Canada extended its temporary border measures, a subordinate traveller-information page continued to display the earlier expiry date. The newer instrument controls; the lag is recorded rather than averaged, and the extension itself is not published here until the instrument is read at source. Two government pages disagreeing is not two policies — it is one policy and one stale page.
