Explore

Twelve ways into everyday questions, with health at the center of each.

Explore by area

Not every health question starts in a clinic. It starts at the grocery store, in a lease, at a new job, on a phone screen, in a heat wave or at the moment a bill arrives. Explore gathers practical guides to those moments. Each one answers the question you came with first, then shows where it connects to health care, coverage, rights or public policy.

How to use Explore

Choose one of the twelve areas below. Each area holds five topics, and each topic leads to a guide written to be used, not skimmed: a short answer at the top, the steps in order, and the questions worth asking. Many guides come with a printable worksheet or checklist. Those pages are plain text. Nothing you write on them is collected or stored.

What every guide shares

  • Sources you can check. Each guide ends with a numbered list of the official sources it relies on: agencies, statutes, regulations and clinical guidance. The page tells you when those sources were last checked.
  • Plain limits. A guide explains how something generally works. It cannot judge your own diagnosis, claim or contract. When a decision depends on your situation, the guide says who to ask.
  • Health first, not health only. The guides on money, work, housing or travel still keep the reader's health in view: coverage, medicines, access and safety.
  • California detail where it matters. Federal rules come first. California rules and programs are named and labeled wherever they differ.

Where Explore leads

Behind these everyday guides sits the site's core work: patient education written by a physician, plain-language explanations of health law and policy, and a record of the decisions that shape care. You never have to go further than the guide you came for. If you want the deeper layer, each guide links to it where the connection is real.
