The Social Security Administration reports a 3.6% cost-of-living adjustment for 2027. It applies beginning with Social Security benefits payable in January 2027. Increased Supplemental Security Income payments begin on December 31, 2026.

The announcement replaces an earlier “awaiting announcement” status. The Social Security and SSI payment dates should remain separate rather than being presented as one universal first-payment date.

A percentage adjustment is not a calculation of an individual’s net deposit. Benefit amount, applicable deductions, and individual circumstances still matter. Use the personal benefit notice and official SSA information for the amount applicable to a particular beneficiary.
